Hypothermia
A Dogs temperature should range between 38.3 – 38.7 C. When body temperature drops below the accepted normal range hypothermia occurs.
Predisposing factors:
– Cold weather
– Wet conditions
– Age
– Size of Animal
– Low blood sugar levels
Symptoms include:
– Shivering
– Weakness
– Muscle stiffness
First Aid:
Mild hypothermia (32°C – 37°C)
Use insulation such as blankets.
Moderate hypothermia (28°C – 32°C)
Active warming such as heat pads.
Severe hypothermia (below 28°C)
Invasive core warming (vet attention ASAP).
