Natural Coat Enhancement
Silk Coat Hand-Stripping
The Hand-Stripping Process
This process involves the plucking of dead hairs from your dog’s coat by hand, leaving the fresh natural coat in all its glory.
Hand-stripping doesn’t hurt your dog as only the dead hairs are removed from their coat. It speeds up the natural growth process of the hair and is normally carried out twice a year: once in spring and again in autumn. This is when your dog’s coat will be ready to shed in preparation for the seasonal climate.
Neutering can affect the structure of the coat; this is because the undercoat will grow faster than the top coat leaving the appearance darker and duller. This will affect the pliability of the coat for hand-stripping as the texture changes.
Your dog is bathed and blow dried so the coat is light and workable. Any tangles are brushed out prior to the coat being stripped.
During the groom a health check is carried out on your dog. Any abnormal findings are reported back to you and a note is made on your dog’s file to ensure it has improved by the next groom. This will include:
– Coat and skin condition
– Eyes and ears check
– Teeth and gums
– Nails assessed
– Groin
Hand-Stripped Dogs
Dogs are hand-stripped / carded and then their silhouette is tidied up by scissoring along the feathers.
