Your dog is bathed in warm water and washed with a cleansing shampoo that is suitable for its coat, followed by a coat enhancing shampoo. Your dog is then blow dried and brushed out to remove loose hair and tidy its appearance.

Your dog is bathed in warm water and their coat is thoroughly cleansed and blow dried. Loose undercoat is removed with a selection of de-shedding tools to leave your dog’s coat looking fresh and at its best. Products are used to make any minor matts and tangles easier to remove. Any trimming that occurs is minor and only done to tidy up small areas.

The animal welfare act prohibits pain or suffering to animals which is something Harlequin Dog Grooming takes very seriously. Regular breaks are given for your dog’s welfare. Severe matts will be clipped out so it does not cause unnecessary stress to your dog.

Double coats are not usually clipped off unless their fur is unsalvageable and the only humane thing to do is to clip off. If this is the case, the coat will be fully clipped off with the owner signing a disclaimer / consent form prior to the clip off. Advice on maintenance between grooms will be provided.

Your dog is bathed and blow dried so their coat is in optimum condition for a trim. Matts and tangles are removed prior to clipping to ensure the blades can move smoothly through the coat.

The coat is made manageable by trimming away long hair, different trims can improve your dog’s appearance by accentuating the features of its breed. Coats can be scissored or clipped to the correct breed standard shape or clip offs can be performed for easy maintenance.

Whatever suits you, your dog and its lifestyle the trim can be tailored to your requirements.

Hand-stripping takes a little longer that a full groom depending on the size of your dog, how much undercoat it has and how well your dog tolerates it.

This method takes 3 hours+ and involves the plucking of dead hair from the coat by hand, leaving the coat fresh and natural. Ideal for silk-coated or wire-coated dogs, hand-stripping is an alternative to clipping and doesn’t hurt your dog as only the dead hairs are removed from their coat.

Hand-stripping speeds up the natural growth process of the hair and is normally carried out twice a year: once in spring and again in autumn.

Neutering can affect the structure of the coat which can prevent it being hand-stripped because the pliability and texture changes.

Nails will be trimmed as required and clipped as close to the quick as possible.

Nails that are optimum length allows your dog to feel comfortable whilst walking and running. Long nails can be problematic for your dog as the risk of the nail curling into the pad or being ripped out increases.

Nails will not be clipped if your Dog does not allow its feet to be held, attempts to bite and gets too stressed.

Introducing your puppy to the grooming process at a steady pace they are comfortable with. Your pup will be bathed in warm water and lathered up in a gentle puppy shampoo to cleanse their coat. They are then towel dried to remove excess water and blow dried on a low setting as much as they allow.

Puppies will be rewarded for good behaviour and praised along the way. If their nails need clipping this will be attempted.

An insecticidal shampoo will be lathered into your Dogs coat, left for 5 minutes and rinsed, followed by a brush out with flea comb to remove any unwanted critters that are inhabiting your Dog’s coat.

This service will not guarantee the removal of all fleas but helps break the flea life cycle. You will still need to treat your home and continue to check your pet for the following 1-2 weeks to ensure the fleas are gone.

Any ticks found on your dog will be safely removed free of charge.
